Job Description

The Hampsong Foundation, founded by baritone Thomas Hampson to support and proliferate the art of song and singing, seeks a dynamic, self-motivated Managing Director to manage this start-up non-profit. The Managing Director will be responsible for managing and expediting programs; for creating and expediting fundraising strategies and activities, including individual, foundation, corporate and individual donor prospecting and cultivation, grant writing and maintenance of donor database; for developing Hampsong’s communication strategies in collaboration with an outside pr firm; for expanding the content of the foundation’s Web site, www.hampsong.org into a rich, interactive resource for lovers of song; for managing the foundation office, and, as the foundation expands, supervising staff. The Managing Director reports directly to Artistic Director Thomas Hampson and liaises regularly with the Board of Directors.

Qualifications (preferred):
  • Minimum of three years experience in foundation work, fundraising, marketing or administration
  • Excellent communication, writing and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized and self-motivated
  • Web-savvy: familiar with developments in new media technology
  • English (native tongue); fluent in German
  • Familiar with classical music, particularly the vocal arts
  • Graduate degree
  • Based in New York City or its environs

Founded by Thomas Hampson, America’s foremost baritone and a passionate advocate of American music and Lieder, the Hampsong Foundation commissions composers and funds research projects to expand the song repertory and our knowledge of it, finances recordings and new media projects, supports the next generation of singers through master classes and recital debuts, and provides, through its Web site, www.Hampsong.org, a rich interactive resource and meeting place for lovers of song.
