Summer recitals in Europe and the U.S.

Thomas Hampson is featured in recital at Music Academy of the West’s Hahn Hall on June 22; he also serves as the Mosher Guest Artist this season at the Academy. Pianist Tamara Sanikidze accompanies this performance, highlighting selections by Strauss, Ravel, and Barber, in addition to works by Burleigh, Copland, and more. Hampson reunites with acclaimed pianist and frequent collaborator Wolfram Rieger on July 12 and 17 for recitals at the Schubertiade Hohenems, at the Markus-Sittikus-Saal. They present works by Hugo Wolf on the first recital, including selections from Lieder nach Gedichten von Eduard MörikeGesänge des Harfners aus Goethes (“Wilhelm Misters Lehrjahre”), and Lieder nach Gedichten von Joseph von Eichendorff. The second recital highlights songs by Loewe, Schubert’s Lieder nach Gedichten von Heinrich Heine, and Schumann’s 20 Lieder und Gesänge aug dem »Lyrischen Intermezzo« von Heinrich HeineThe performances are featured as part of Hampson’s week-long residency in Hohenems, which also features a series of master classes.

Hampson and Rieger then present a recital at the Salzburg Festival on August 15 at the Haus für Mozart, commemorating the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. The programme includes Shakespeare settings by Schubert, Vaughan Williams, Korngold, and Schumann.
