Concerts with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and Gianandrea Noseda

In June, Thomas Hampson joins the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Gianandrea Noseda, for a special concert series. He will perform the work Lingua Angelorum (“The Language of Angels”), written by composer Sylvie Bodorova. This song cycle, dedicated to Mr. Hampson, was inspired by the reign of Rudolph II in Prague, which took place more than 400 years ago. The texts are taken from various authors, including Claudio Monteverdi and William Shakespeare.

The work was premiered by Mr. Hampson with the Prague Symphony Orchestra and Christoph Zimmermann on July 4, 2012, at the Smetanova Limotyšl International Opera Festival. Of the piece, Hampson says, “Lingua Angelorum is a beautiful work, full of different ideas that Sylvie has captured in myriad musical styles of her own language. Each song becomes a small cosmos unto itself.” Enjoy a video preview of Mvt. 1: Prologue Il Mio Martir on YouTube.

Performances take place June 1920 & 23 in Tel Aviv and on June 21 in Haifa. The program also features orchestral works by Rossini (Overture to La gazza ladra) and Mendelssohn (Symphony No. 3 “Scottish”).
